About Us

I'm Steve Shepherd, a third generation custom combiner with 35 years experience.

From May through November my crew harvests grain crops, mostly wheat from Texas to North Dakota, and we finish with fall crops in my home area around Onida, South Dakota.

In the winter, we run guided goose hunts over decoys from comfortable pits in harvested corn fields in the Onida area.

We are looking for reliable employees and good customers for both of our harvesting operations.

History of Shepherd Harvesting

Shepherd Harvesting was started in the 1940's with the first combine being a Pull type M-M with a six foot header. My grandfather Dale Shepherd was the first Shepherd to start harvesting. Then my dad Delee Shepherd began harvesting in the early 1950s when he got out of the Air Force.

I started harvesting in 1970 whenever I was 15 years old. The first combine I bought was a John Deere 4400. My Dad and I were partners for 23 years before he retired in 1992. In those 23 years, we owned 36 John Deere’s and 16 Case IH’s. After five years, I made one more change, and that was to Gleaners. Since 1997, I have owned 27 Gleaners. I am currently operating Gleaner R-75 combines.
